About the Role

This role is integral to ensuring the health and safety of personnel working underground by maintaining optimal air quality, temperature, and humidity levels. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct regular ventilation surveys, including airflow measurements, gas detection, and dust monitoring.
• Analyze ventilation network performance and identify areas for improvement.
• Assist in the design and specification of ventilation systems, including fans, ducting, and auxiliary ventilation.
• Monitor thermal environments and recommend strategies for heat management.
• Ensure compliance with all mine health and safety regulations related to ventilation.
• Troubleshoot ventilation-related issues and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare technical reports on ventilation performance and findings.
• Collaborate with mine planning and operations teams to integrate ventilation into mine design.
• Maintain records of ventilation surveys, equipment performance, and safety compliance.
• Support the implementation of new ventilation technologies and practices.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's degree in Mining Engineering or a related field, with a specialization in ventilation.
• A minimum of 4 years of experience in mine ventilation engineering.
• Proficiency in using ventilation survey equipment and software (e.g., Ventsim, GASSIM).
• Understanding of mine ventilation principles, including airflow dynamics, thermodynamics, and contaminant transport.
• Knowledge of South African mining legislation and ventilation standards.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team.
• Experience with underground mining operations is preferred.
