Assistant Accountant

About the Role

Our client, a thriving logistics company, is seeking a diligent and proactive Assistant Accountant to support their finance team in Randburg . This role offers a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a solid foundation in accounting principles to further develop their career. You will be involved in various accounting functions, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, bank reconciliations, and assisting with month-end close procedures. This position operates on a Hybrid work model, combining essential office-based tasks with remote flexibility. The ideal candidate will be eager to learn and contribute to a busy, dynamic environment.

Key Responsibilities

• Process accounts payable invoices and ensure timely and accurate payments.


• Manage accounts receivable, including invoicing clients and following up on outstanding payments.


• Perform bank reconciliations and investigate any discrepancies.


• Assist with the preparation of general ledger entries and journal postings.


• Support the month-end and year-end closing processes.


• Help maintain fixed asset registers.


• Assist with VAT reconciliations and submissions.


• Provide support for internal and external audits.


• Assist in generating financial reports and performing basic financial analysis.


• Maintain organized financial records and filing systems.

Requirements

• A relevant diploma or degree in Accounting or a related financial field (e.g., NQF Level 6).


• Currently pursuing or holding a professional qualification (e.g., SAIPA, ACCA Foundation) is an advantage.


• 1-3 years of experience in an accounting or bookkeeping role.


• Proficiency in accounting software (e.g., Pastel, QuickBooks) and Microsoft Excel.


• Good understanding of basic accounting principles and South African tax regulations.


• Strong attention to detail and accuracy.


• Good organizational and time management skills.


• Effective communication and interpersonal abilities.


• Ability to work collaboratively within a team.


• Must be based in or willing to commute to Randburg for the Hybrid component of the role.
